Disney Cruise Line VoluntEARS Joined Forces to Clean Up Eleuthera’s Coast

Members of the Lighthouse Point Development team removed nearly two tons of trash from the coastline along Bannerman Town Beach in celebration of International Coastal Cleanup.

The team removed everything from plastics, glass bottles and soda cans to large ropes and fishing nets. Bradley, a conservation manager with Disney Cruise Line in The Bahamas, helped pick up trash along the coast and said volunteering alongside his team members is important to him. “It makes us think about, number one, the plastics are coming from all around the world, and we have an international team working on this beach to remove that plastic to make this community better,” said Bradley.

Pachancia, who is also on Disney Cruise Line’s conservation team in The Bahamas, joined the cleanup as well. She explained why this initiative is critical to the island. “We have a lot of keen species and native and migratory species that rely on our beaches for nesting sites or food, so it means a lot to me for Disney to be part of this and for me to be part of this initiative,” Pachancia said.

Lighthouse Point Development construction manager, Steve, shared, “the Disney VoluntEARS are everywhere trying to make a difference. If you could see the amount of debris we picked up off of this beach, I feel we did make a difference here today.” Events like these beach clean ups are just one of many ways Disney Cruise Line helps protect the environment and gives back to The Bahamas and its other port communities.

Disney Cruise Line recently announced its Wishes Set Sail campaign, an all-new initiative developed to support various youth activities in key port communities. On board, Disney Cruise Line is investing in new technologies that help increase the fleet’s fuel efficiency and minimize waste. The use of liquified natural gas, or LNG, and numerous advances in ship design, make the Disney Wish one of the most fuel and energy efficient cruise ships on the water.
