Progress | Disney Cruise Line is creating a new experience in The Bahamas at Lighthouse Point, Eleuthera

Project Status

  • Disney Cruise Line has completed its purchase of the Lighthouse Point property and signed a Heads of Agreement with the government of The Bahamas.

  • The Bahamas Department of Environmental Planning and Protection issued a Certificate of Environmental Clearance for the project in November 2021. In addition to its own animal and conservation experts, Disney assembled a team of highly qualified and experienced scientists and other professionals from The Bahamas and abroad who spent more than three years developing a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan. The EIA and EMP are based on extensive field work, robust data collection and analysis, direct engagement with those who have studied the site and the species observed there and a review of available literature.

  • The design for Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will be inspired by the natural environment and rooted in the culture of Eleuthera and The Bahamas more broadly. Disney Cruise Line has partnered with the local creative community, led by master artists Kevin Cooper and Antonius Roberts, to achieve this.

  • Construction began after all necessary government permits and approvals were granted.

  • Disney has had significant and meaningful engagement with the residents of Eleuthera and The Bahamas more broadly. Company representatives have also spent time with scientists who are familiar with the site and with conservation organizations who routinely work in The Bahamas.

  • Disney has held information sessions and met with hundreds of potential , vendors, tour operators and others over the past year to further build relationships and maximize opportunities for Eleuthera and the greater Bahamas and will continue to do so. Disney has also joined the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce. Contracting for opportunities that will be available when the site is operational generally begins 18-24 months prior to the start of on-site operations. Lighthouse Point is currently slated to begin operations in the first half of 2024.

  • Disney Cruise Line collaborated with the Access Accelerator Small Business Development Centre and the Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce to create the Eleuthera Business Hub (EBH). Located in Rock Sound, the new facility gives business owners instant office space, fully equipped with essential tools and amenities for operating a successful business. Services available include business development advisory, business communication training, customer service training, business mentorship, and other seminars and programming designed to empower local businesses and entrepreneurs.
